General Election Candidates Selected

2 May 2017

Members of the Fareham and Gosport Green Party have selected their candidates to stand in the general election on the 8th of June this year.

For Fareham, members have selected 22 year old local Miles Grindey to stand. Speaking about his selection, Miles said “There are many issues across the area that are being ignored by the Conservatives. Fareham is a beautiful place with a tremendous character. Many residents  continue to inspire me every day - these people are fighting for us and those of us in the surrounding areas with great passion in the face of party politics,. From the residents in Funtley battling Welborne, to the people of my home of Warsash campaigning for more buses - these people are fighting hard and my decision to put myself forward is to do my part for all of us. I urge every person in Fareham who cares about our environment, our democracy and our quality of life to join us as we embark on this journey.”

For Gosport, members selected former teacher Monica Cassidy. Speaking about her selection, Monica said "Young people today are often vilified. They are often misunderstood and I think it imperative to improve their standing in society. We must consider what it must be like to walk in their shoes. Working in education has given me insights into the more hidden aspects of young people's' lives. Too many of our young people are harbouring a sense of despair. They do not know anything different, The Green Party is here to show them that it doesn't have to be this way - things can get better.''
